What We Do
Project Playground takes down playgrounds in the U.S. destined for the landfill though they still have many years of play left in them. Then we refurbish and replant those playgrounds in impoverished communities throughout the developing world. Usually this is the first playground the people have ever seen.
How We Do It
Cities, HOAs and School Districts seek to change out their playgrounds every 15-20 years. We work with each by taking down their play structures before they are bulldozed saving them the demolition costs and, with a little TLC, make them ready to put smiles on the faces of children for years to come!
Partnering with churches and nonprofits in the US, as well as overseas, we ship playgrounds to churches, schools and communities throughout the developing world.
Each playground is put back together by a team sent out by Project Playground or with a partnering organization in the US led by members of our experienced construction team.
Why We Work
Playgrounds are vital tools in helping accelerate growth and learning in children’s lives that:
- Increase social interaction in communities
- Foster problems solving skills
- Inspire creativity
- Create much-needed safe environments for play
- Empower local leaders to improve their communities in an exciting way
- Make children laugh because they are just plain fun

Find some ways below that you can get involved with all that we are doing across the world.
Project Playground was founded by Matt Clayton in 2008. While living in Bolivia, he noticed the lack of safe places for kids to play and began building his first playground in his own community.
Since then, Matt married Kelly and the two combined their missions work to develop children’s programs all over Africa and South America.
Now, through Project Playground, they built a dedicated team unified by the heart to see kids blessed all over the world. Just about every time Project Playground comes to town, we build the first playground these kids, and most of their parents, have ever seen – much less played on.
Project Playground is an initiative of Maximizing Children’s Ministries International (MCMINTL) and is an IRS recognized 501(c)3.
